Train to Become a Medic with the Gay Men's Health Collective!

Sunday, February 26th from 9:00am to Sunday, May 7th, 2023 8:00pm (PT)

About

The Gay Men's Health Collective (GMHC) was founded in 1976 within the Berkeley Free Clinic. It was a response to blatant homophobia in the health care establishment. Today, they are a group of volunteer lay and professional health care workers committed to providing free, quality, non-judgmental, STI-related health care to men and nonbinary folks, no matter their orientation. They are starting a medical training program. For this program, they are looking for trainees who are social justice, community oriented, and are interested in providing health care free of cost to the community!

Volunteer Role: Take a training course to be able to become a GMHC medic. Medics are given the responsibility of conducting appointments with our clients in order to help diagnose, test for, and treat STIs such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and HIV. They also provide services such as counseling and physical examinations when necessary. You can read the syllabus here.

Dates and Times: Every Sunday from February 29th to May 7th from 9AM-3PM. They request that trainees shadow current medics every other Sunday from 4PM to 8PM.

Deadline to Register: 1/31/2023. You can request an extension when applying.
