My field of study is focused on improving optimizing outcomes for those with chronic neurological conditions disorders and their family caregivers. I lead the Caring for the Caregiver program at UT Health San Antonio, School of Nursing. The mission of the program is to support the health and quality of life of families caring for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Through extensive work with the community in identifying the strengths and gaps in care, we have developed a program that is responding to the needs of caregivers in South Texas, through practice, education, research, and community engagement. Working with the Caring for the Caregiver team, we conduct both qualitative and quantitative research necessary to understand, measure, and improve support quality of life among those with chronic illness and their family caregivers.
